What are Permission Groups?
Permission Groups are collections of permissions that define what staff members can view and do in Boulevard. Assigning staff to Permission Groups makes it easier to manage access consistently across your business.
Who can create or manage Permission Groups?
Only staff members with the Manage Permission Groups permission can create, edit, and assign Permission Groups.
Staff can only create or manage Permission Groups within the limits of their own permissions and assigned locations.
Why can't I edit a Permission Group?
Permission Groups are location-aware.
You can only edit a Permission Group if:
It is assigned only to locations you're assigned to.
It doesn't include permissions outside your own permission scope.
If a Permission Group includes locations outside your assigned locations, you'll still be able to view it (if applicable), but you won't be able to edit it.
Why can't I see all Permission Groups?
You'll only see Permission Groups that:
Include at least one of your assigned locations.
Fall within your own permission scope.
Permission Groups that don't apply to any of your assigned locations won't appear.
Can I create Permission Groups for any location?
No.
When creating a Permission Group, you can only assign it to locations you're assigned to.
This helps ensure location managers and franchise owners only manage permissions for the locations they oversee.
Can I give someone permissions that I don't have?
No.
Permission Groups can only contain permissions that are a subset of your own permissions.
This prevents users from granting access beyond what they're authorized to manage.
Can I change my own permissions?
No.
Boulevard prevents privilege escalation. You can't modify your own assigned Permission Group to give yourself additional permissions.
What happens to existing Permission Groups?
Existing Permission Groups continue to work as they do today.
With location-aware Permission Groups, existing groups remain available, while new Permission Groups can be assigned to specific locations.
Depending on your assigned locations, you may notice that some Permission Groups are now read-only or no longer appear.
Why did Boulevard make Permission Groups location-aware?
Location-aware Permission Groups help protect multi-location businesses from unintended permission changes.
For example, a franchise owner can manage Permission Groups for their own locations without being able to modify Permission Groups used by other franchisees or corporate locations.
This allows businesses to delegate permission management while maintaining appropriate boundaries between locations.
