Commission Summary Report |
Overview
The Commission Summary report helps you get a summary of what each staff member earned in commissions and tips within a given period. It rolls up commissionable sales across services, products, packages, and memberships alongside gratuity, giving you one total per staff member per location.
Use this report to support payroll processing, compare earnings and performance across your team, and confirm that variable compensation is tracking the way you expect. It's especially useful for surfacing coaching opportunities and flagging unusual earning patterns, since you can filter by location or date range to line results up with your exact pay period.
Note: This report covers commission and tips only — it doesn't include hourly wages, salary, or other compensation, so it can't be used alone to calculate total payroll cost. It's also a summarized view; for transaction-level detail or to investigate a specific total, use the Commission Line Items report. See the Report Caveats section below for how tier thresholds and staff amendments can affect totals.

Report Caveats
There are a few important caveats and limitations to be aware of when using this report. Use these details to better understand how the data behaves and how to interpret it correctly.
Caveats | Details and Impact |
This report covers commission and tips only — it does not include hourly wages, salary, or other compensation | Commission Summary reflects variable earnings from commissionable sales and gratuity only. Hourly wages, salary, bonuses, and other non-commission compensation are not included. Boulevard does not store pay rates and cannot calculate total payroll cost from this report alone. To calculate full compensation, export commission and tip totals and combine with wage data from your external payroll system. |
Commission tier thresholds are evaluated within the selected date range — changing the date range changes the tier | When tier-based commission rates are configured, tiers are calculated based on cumulative commissionable sales within the date range applied to this report. Changing the date range changes which tier a staff member falls into. To accurately reflect payroll commission, the Order Date filter must match exactly the pay period used for payroll processing. Viewing a shorter period than your actual pay period may show a lower tier and understate the correct commission rate. |
Staff amendments may cause commission amounts to appear duplicated for the affected date | When a service is reassigned from one staff member to another after checkout, the system creates amendment line items to move the commission. If these amendments fall within the same reporting period as the original transaction, the commission may appear to double-count for specific dates. If a staff member's commission looks unexpectedly high for a specific day, check the Commission Line Items report for that date to identify any Amendment (Increase) or Amendment (Decrease) lines. |
Viewing this report requires both commission report access and location report access | Staff or operators need both commission report permission and location-level report access enabled to view this report. Enabling commission report permission alone is not sufficient. If a staff member reports they cannot view the commission report despite having commission permissions turned on, verify that location-level report access is also enabled for their permission group. |
This report shows a summarized view — use Commission Line Items for transaction-level detail | Commission Summary aggregates all commissionable activity into totals per staff member per location for the selected period. Individual line items, order numbers, client names, and per-item rates are not visible here. To investigate a specific transaction or verify how a commission total was calculated, use the Commission Line Items report with the same date range and staff filter. |
